Starship is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. You'll play a crucial role in managing our day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, and contributing to our continued success as we work towards becoming a potential "unicorn" company!
This is a remote position, requiring an independent and proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do:
As a Senior Accountant at Starship, you'll be responsible for a wide range of critical accounting functions. Your day-to-day will involve:
- Financial Record Management: Prepare journal entries; update, verify, and maintain accounting journals, ledgers, and other financial records. You'll also maintain a complete filing system to support all financial documentation.
- Reconciliations & Analysis: Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts, collate and analyze account data, and generate comprehensive reports. You'll also explain monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) fluctuations to key stakeholders.
- Payroll & Intercompany: Control payroll functions, including updating and reviewing payroll and bonus bookings. Manage intercompany transactions, including payments and invoice creation.
- Payments & Taxes: Prepare payment files, process incoming and outgoing checks, and manage advance payments. You'll also be responsible for taxes payable and tax reporting in the US, along with reporting to other US State Institutions.
- Accruals & Allocations: Handle accruals for items like insurance and retirement plan payroll. Manage other revenue and advertising revenue accounting, as well as allocations.
- Loans & Equity: Oversee loan accounting for holdings and manage equity-related entries.
- Month-End Close & Audits: Lead the independent month-end close process. Assist in audits, tax returns, and other reporting for government agencies, including the annual reports of the group’s companies.
- Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with our external financial partners and provide accounting recommendations to the company.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and enhance internal control systems to ensure financial integrity.
- Support & Administration: Provide daily support to the Group Chief Accountant and perform related duties as assigned by the Group Chief Accountant, CFO, and other general administrative tasks as needed.
What You'll Bring:
To be successful in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- 5+ years of progressive working experience in Accounting.
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with multi-national consolidation.
- Proven experience working independently with auditors.
- Experience with independent month-end close.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Remote work experience and the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- Confidence to propose improvements and constructively question current processes.
- Candidates must reside somewhere in the Eastern time-zone, in order to qualify for the role.
