Senior Data Engineer
Starship Technologies is revolutionizing deliveries with autonomous robots. These robots are designed to deliver food, groceries, and packages across college campuses and neighborhoods in minutes. Starship has now completed millions of autonomous deliveries to date, traveled millions of miles, and is currently doing more than 140k road crossings each day. Our contribution to society includes reducing congestion, and pollution, providing zero-emissions deliveries, increasing the quality of life for residents, empowering seniors and disabled people, and enabling affordable delivery for local businesses.
We’re hitting records on an almost weekly basis. Now is an exciting time to join as we grow rapidly around the world!
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data team and play an essential part in our mission to provide the world with affordable and environment-friendly deliveries.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll split your focus between building, governance, and optimization. You’ll oversee our data infrastructure and tooling exposed to data and engineering teams, emphasizing the creation of automated, configuration-based solutions. Additionally, you'll optimize data handling cost-effectively as data volumes grow and design end-to-end pipelines that ensure data integrity and visibility, preventing accidental errors.
This role offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact how we manage and enhance our data systems.
This position is available in either Estonia or Finland. We are open to considering relocation to Estonia for the right candidate.
Your main responsibilities are:
- Developing solutions for data integration and tooling, such as data imports, job orchestration, development environments, and monitoring
- Guiding architectural decisions to ensure robustness, cost-effectiveness, and strong observability of the data platform
- Performance tuning for both existing and new workloads
- Maintaining the health of our data platform (Databricks on AWS, with some applications running on Kubernetes) and addressing issues as they arise
What’s in it for you?
- Starship’s Data team is praised for excellence in every aspect, offering ample learning opportunities. The team members are highly skilled, providing a great opportunity for personal development
- You will collaborate with people with a strong inner burning and motivation. We are self-aware and seek feedback and improvement. We take pride in our ability to make the most of limited resources to solve problems no one has ever encountered before
- We are a fast-growing startup, with great opportunities to grow within the company. Your contribution will matter. There are lots of ways you can make a difference and personally feel the impact
- You’ll have endless opportunities to learn from our inspirational, talented team members across the globe
What we hope you’ll bring to the table:
- A solid understanding of operating systems, networks, databases, and distributed systems with practical experience in making architectural decisions
- Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
- Proficiency in SQL, scripting, building robust data pipelines, and implementing monitoring solutions with experience in creating cost-effective data solutions as data volumes scale
- A proactive interest in performance tuning and troubleshooting, with a track record of identifying and resolving complex issues
- An active interest in the field of data engineering
- A “let’s do this” attitude, striving for pragmatic yet maintainable solutions
- Good communication skills in both verbal and written English
- Ability to achieve results independently as well as through teamwork
Beneficial:
- Prior experience with Databricks, Spark, AWS, Airflow, Kubernetes, and Kafka
